George Allen Holds Business Roundtable in Winchester

Today, George Allen brought the Virginia Voices tour to the Shenandoah Valley, listening to business and community leaders and local residents. Held at Greenway Engineering, a multi-disciplined consulting engineering firm founded in 1971, the roundtable included participants from financial, manufacturing, energy, food and retail industries. They shared concerns regarding the economy and federal regulatory policies that are adversely affecting job creation and business growth.

"Building my own business took hard work, freedom and innovation that Washington's policies are now discouraging," said Mark Smith, owner of Greenway Engineering. "Small businesses like mine are having to navigate through endless rules and regulations from a federal government that is often standing in the way of success. As electricity and gas prices rise and the health care law causes insurance premiums to climb, the burdens on small businesses are growing greater and hindering our ability to expand and hire new team members. To create an environment for growth, we need less government in our lives and businesses. If we send George Allen to be our voice in Washington, I know our concerns will be heard and our commonwealth will have a leader committed to creating the jobs and opportunities we need."

Issues discussed at the roundtable included the health care law driving physicians out of practice and EPA regulations destroying jobs and inhibiting business.

"This year, Americans face a clear choice of whether we want to continue down our current path or whether we want America to begin to ascend again," said George Allen. "The trajectory we're on will lead to even higher energy costs, greater tax burdens, fewer job opportunities and devastating cuts to our military and national defense. Leaders in Washington have failed to set priorities, placing undue burdens on businesses that otherwise could create the jobs so many hardworking Americans need. It's time for America's Comeback by unleashing our energy resources from our coalfields to our coast for affordable electricity and fuel prices, reining in over-reaching regulations, and providing families and small businesses with more affordable, portable patient-centered health care solutions."
